The Grateful Hound is owned and operated by the husband and wife team of John and Maggie Granquist.
Prior to residing in Savannah, John and Maggie lived with their faithful dog Barksdale in Arlington, Virginia, just across the river from Washington, D.C. Though happy in the Washington area, they often talked about picking up and moving to Savannah, their favorite city and vacation spot, to open a pet boutique offering not only the best in dog products, but items for both people and the home.
After enduring a record 55 inches of snowfall during the winter of 2009-2010, John and Maggie knew it was time for a change. They quit their jobs, packed up the car and headed south to Savannah, chasing their dream.
The Grateful Hound opened its doors in October 2010. It is the first pet boutique of its kind in Savannah, offering unique dog-themed gifts; environmentally friendly toys; high quality foods and treats; supplies; and pet-inspired art. The store strives to provide visitors with a memorable shopping experience that celebrates the love shared between people and their canine friends.
